We were frozen with shock, disbelief, and horror all at the same time . . .

It was on a lovely morning walk through the quiet forest when we rounded a bend in the trail and were met by the sight of four gaunt, starving kittens barely moving in the bushes.
Their tattered fur, hollow eyes, protruding rib cages, and caved-in stomachs made it clear they were only days, perhaps hours, away from death. So frail and fragile, they couldn’t even stand when we approached . . . so weak that their attempts at mewing sounded more like the whispering of leaves.
It wasn’t until we placed them in the arms of the volunteers at AnimalSave that we dared to feel relief and hope that the lives of these tiny, helpless creatures could be saved.

Twelve years ago, Dave and Mary were browsing in the AnimalSave Thrift Store when they saw me taking two foster puppies outside for a break. The couple, both in their sixties, weren’t looking for a dog—much less a puppy!—but one of the little balls of fur captured their hearts, and they decided to adopt her. Little Maggie slept in Mary’s lap all the way home, and as the years rolled on, she continued to bring her gifts of love and joy into their lives. After Maggie died this year, Mary wrote that she and Dave will always be thankful to AnimalSave for believing in them as adopters, and for bringing sweet Maggie into their lives.
